Thoughts on Meditation

Hi lovelies,

Like most of the world, I’m hearing the word “meditate” everywhere. It has absolutely blown up in the US, probably because most Americans work too much, sleep too little, and eat terrible food. Enter meditation to help alleviate some of those pains. I have become more interested in meditation and mindfulness the past few years but admit I’ve never been great at the actual practice of meditation. My mind always wanders no matter what and I have a hard time relaxing. But I know it’s called a practice for a reason and I intend to do just that for a years to come. Every day I see the positive impact meditation has on me and for sure people are talking about it for a reason.

I did a free trial of the Headspace app and liked it but I didn’t really want to keep paying for it every year. I found another app called Insight timer that is free and community driven and has lots of different free meditations submitted by contributors you can listen to. They usually aren’t as basic and guided as the Headspace ones but I like that. I don’t have to be constantly reminded to breathe, I appreciate the positive messages and more mindfulness I’ve experienced with the Insight timer app.

I’ll keep you all posted on my progress but so far I’m loving it!

New Fitness Routine

I have adopted as new fitness regime in anticipation of summer. I find I have much more energy for exercising in the spring once it starts getting light out earlier! So my new regime is:

  • Wake up at 5:30 AM
  • Drink two glasses of lukewarm water
  • Quickly get ready and out the door by 5:45AM
  • Warm up walk for one hour while the sun is rising
  • Gym at 6 AM
  • Full body strength training using weights and machines for 45 minutes
  • Cool down stretch and foam roll for 15 minutes
  • Walk home at 7 AM
  • Eat a big breakfast with lots of protein

And that’s what I do 5-6 times a week. I focus on training difference parts of the body each day and always mix it up a little bit. My favorite body part to train is abs!

If you have any feedback or suggestions I’d love to hear them! What’s your exercise routine?

Demin Shopping Finds!

Thank you for your nice emails about my last post on the culotte pant! You guys have inspired me to create more fashion posts for your pleasure! If you have anything in particular you’d love me to touch upon, please just send me a message and I will do what I can!

On that note, I wanted to share a couple pairs of jeans that would be great for fall! I recently needed to buy new jeans and I always have such a tough time finding a style I like that’s also flattering so I thought I would share my findings! 😉

Here are a classic pair of high-waisted black skinnies that are the perfect black jeans for all season. I love this brand.

I also love this distressed pair I found at the Gap. They seems to be sold out online now but try searching high rise 360 stretch to find a similar fit. 🙂

These are my fall jean picks that are stylish and on trend but will also effortlessly transition into other seasons! 🙂

Making this Trend Work for You!

Every season there are a few trends that you just see EVERYWHERE. I’m looking at you chokers, belly shirts, and creepers (who comes up with these names?!). Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably noticed the culotte pant all over the place! I love how these chic pants can be dressed up or down and still look effortless. This has been a popular style in France for many years, but it’s finally making it’s way to America. I wanted to share a few ways to style this new trend as we transition into fall. These pants are perfect for those September days when the weather is still figuring out what season it is.

I love the store Zara for on-trend pieces at an affordable price point. I’ve been drooling over their fall releases all day and wanted to share some great culottes and ideas for styling!

Date Night

I love nothing more than an all black outfit. It’s incredibly chic and flattering on anyone. I love how Zara has paired this wide leg pant with a fitted sweater. The sweater adds a bit of texture which is so important when wearing a monochrome look. The jewel details on the pants are another fun element but if you prefer basic all black culottes, I think those would look equally stunning in this look.

Brunch with Friends

This look is cool and uncomplicated and perfect for Sunday brunch with friends. Last night’s hair and makeup would totally work with this look too! Keep the concert tee tucked to show off the pretty belt detail and rock with a pair of trendy sneakers.

Office Attire

I love this look for a day at the office! I think it’s so important to balance a wide legged trouser with a fitted top and this turtleneck has me so excited for cozy fall sweaters. The petal colored pant is an unexpected neutral and could easily transition to spring and summer. I’m all about multi-season pieces! You could add a chunky necklace or some stacked bracelets on top of the sweater for some extra bling.

There you have it! Three different ways to make the culotte pant work for you this fall. Give it a try!

Memorial Day Long Weekend

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well!

I had an absolutely lovely Memorial Day Long Weekend last month! We decided to try something different this year and visit New York City! I have some friends that I went to school with that live in Manhattan – they happen to have a spare bedroom, and they were good enough to offer it up!

New York is such a great place for taking in the arts. We went to the museum, several art galleries, and generally walked around town, with coffees in hand, enjoying the New York City vibe!

Something about New York has always captured my imagination. Perhaps it’s the way it’s always being referenced in pop culture. I am a huge Seinfeld nerd and we had a ton of fun visiting some of the spots popularized through the show – include the Soup Nazi’s stand!

We also spend some time visiting the site of 9-11 and paying our respects. The enormity of 9-11 really hits home when you visit the site in person.

All in all, we enjoyed about 3 days in New York. It was hardly enough and I can’t wait to go back! I am thinking it might be nice to go back during the fall, when it is a bit cooler. I hear that New York can get pretty muggy during the summer months, and this girl’s hair gets crazy in environments like that!

Here are some cool photos of New York… what a rad city!

How about you? How did you spend your Memorial Day Long Weekend?

Fashion Week Spring 2017

I have been drooling over all the amazing new fashion showcased at spring fashion weeks all over the world. I would die to attend fashion week one day! It’s my goal to save up to attend Paris fashion week sometime in 2018 as a spectator and to present at New York fashion week in the next five years. Clearly I have a lot of work ahead of me but I can’t wait for the challenge!

I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces from Paris fashion week with you all. From the stages, to the shoes, to the hair and makeup, and everything in between – fashion is all about being fabulous from head to toe. I hope you enjoy these looks as much as I did!

New Recipes and Update!

From reading my blog I’m sure you’ve noticed I like eating well, staying fit, and creating fashion! I try to cook healthy meals everyday and I’m always on the look out for new recipes to add to my repertoire. I always see BuzzFeed recipe videos show up in my Facebook newsfeed so I decided it was time to finally watch one and check out their site. First of the all, the videos are such a cool concept, they show the whole cooking process in about a minute which makes the meal look super easy and achievable. I found this article on their website with 18 healthy recipes and below is the one I tried last night for dinner and loved. Check it out for yourself!

Sewing day + In Love with These Outfits!

I am sewing some new skirt designs today! It is always exciting to see my new designs come to life. It is difficult though, my designing abilities are better than my abilities with a thread and needle and the sewing machine!

I like to get my fashion inspiration from looking at runway models. See below for the ones I like best – I want these outfits so badly! Maybe my boyfriend will read this and get some ideas for Christmas… I know he did not do his shopping yet!

Which one is your favourite? 🙂

Oh No, Time for a Tangent About Election and Politics!

I am writing here about fashion and living a nice active life, so I don’t want to write about politics, but I have to say that I am sad to see what has happened with America. I grew up in France, where the tradition is to not to bring a politician’s personal life into politics. They leave wives, girlfriends, and families alone because they are not relevant to the issues.

I think that is how it should be. If the personal life of every candidate is in the newspaper, then who will want to run for politics? I think we should be changing the system to encourage good people to step forward to lead, and hopefully many more women!

Anyway, just my thoughts… now back to fashion and health and I promise no more about politics from me! 🙂

Sound Baths? Tell me More!

Have you heard about sound baths? This is really very interesting and very unique! The process of sound bathing involves laying on a yoga mat while gongs, singing bowls, etc are played by a “sound healer”. These are very popular in Los Angeles these days!

I tried my first sound bath a few days ago. It was very relaxing, and it felt like my mind was transported on a journey. It was very easy to meditate and I felt so good afterwards. I slept like a baby that night too!

I was so interested to learn that sound baths have been used for a very long time! Sound, throughout music, or chanting, or singing bowls, has been used in other cultures for healing and wellness. I also heard that sound baths can help alleviate anxiety, sleep disorders, pain management, stress, and depression. Wow!

What do you think, will you try one as well? You can hear a demonstration of sound healing on this website!

Drinking Your Water

I have a tip for drinking 8 glasses of water a day which I wanted to share with you! For a long time I promised myself I would drink this much water but it always becomes so difficult when the day gets busy. Here is what I do… promise not to laugh!

As soon as I wake up a drink two big cups of lukewarm water. About an hour later I need to go to the bathroom. As soon as I leave the bathroom (and here is the trick) I go and drink another two big cups of water. One hour later, guess where I am going? 🙂

The trick is to always drink a lot of water right each time… and like clockwork you will easily drink 8 glasses or maybe even more if you are lucky!

Another good trick is to get a water bottle that you carry with you everywhere. I have a 600 ml version of this copper bottle and take that with me in my purse. It is pure copper, a nice size and beautiful, which makes me want to carry it with me everywhere!

Good luck and drink lots of water!

Keeping My Bikini Body

Although we are not through winter yet I want to make sure I keep my bikini body! You never know when you may be whisked away someplace warm over the holidays… we will see if my boyfriend gets the hint!!! 🙂

I have been doing this bikini body exercise routine in the gym over the last few weeks. The results have been amazing – try it and let me know what you think?

Do you have any good exercises to share? Please, let me know!

Staying Fit the French Way

I have seen this interesting article today about how the French stay slim. Well, as a French girl I thought I would tell you what I think about it!!

I am one of those tall, skinny girls, but you would never think so by the way I eat! I can be ravenous and my American friends make fun of me for that.

Some say it is because of my French background which gives me high metabolism, but I do not think it has anything to do with genetics. No, I think it has more to do with the lifestyle that I grew up with and which I brought with me from France.

First of all, European cities like Bordeaux, where I grew up, are very, very different from American cities. In Europe, most people live in the cities where it is very dense. The streets are narrow, and they are often clogged with people. Although many people have cars, they do not use them in the city. So we walk to work, and to the store, and home again. Walking may not seem like much at the time, but it burns calories and keeps our bodies toned, and all of those kilometres add up.

Second of all, the French tend to eat more natural, unprocessed foods. So, our calorie and fat intake is lower to begin with! We also slow down and eat for pleasure, which means that our bellies fill up more slowly and we know better when to stop.

Yes, it is true that we French enjoy lots of good cheese, wine, and baguettes – but those foods are natural and unprocessed, we are savouring them when we eat them and so eating less, and meanwhile we are walking everywhere and burning calories that way. Sounds pretty easy, hum? 🙂
