Memorial Day Long Weekend

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well!

I had an absolutely lovely Memorial Day Long Weekend last month! We decided to try something different this year and visit New York City! I have some friends that I went to school with that live in Manhattan – they happen to have a spare bedroom, and they were good enough to offer it up!

New York is such a great place for taking in the arts. We went to the museum, several art galleries, and generally walked around town, with coffees in hand, enjoying the New York City vibe!

Something about New York has always captured my imagination. Perhaps it’s the way it’s always being referenced in pop culture. I am a huge Seinfeld nerd and we had a ton of fun visiting some of the spots popularized through the show – include the Soup Nazi’s stand!

We also spend some time visiting the site of 9-11 and paying our respects. The enormity of 9-11 really hits home when you visit the site in person.

All in all, we enjoyed about 3 days in New York. It was hardly enough and I can’t wait to go back! I am thinking it might be nice to go back during the fall, when it is a bit cooler. I hear that New York can get pretty muggy during the summer months, and this girl’s hair gets crazy in environments like that!

Here are some cool photos of New York… what a rad city!

How about you? How did you spend your Memorial Day Long Weekend?

Fashion Week Spring 2017

I have been drooling over all the amazing new fashion showcased at spring fashion weeks all over the world. I would die to attend fashion week one day! It’s my goal to save up to attend Paris fashion week sometime in 2018 as a spectator and to present at New York fashion week in the next five years. Clearly I have a lot of work ahead of me but I can’t wait for the challenge!

I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces from Paris fashion week with you all. From the stages, to the shoes, to the hair and makeup, and everything in between – fashion is all about being fabulous from head to toe. I hope you enjoy these looks as much as I did!

New Recipes and Update!

From reading my blog I’m sure you’ve noticed I like eating well, staying fit, and creating fashion! I try to cook healthy meals everyday and I’m always on the look out for new recipes to add to my repertoire. I always see BuzzFeed recipe videos show up in my Facebook newsfeed so I decided it was time to finally watch one and check out their site. First of the all, the videos are such a cool concept, they show the whole cooking process in about a minute which makes the meal look super easy and achievable. I found this article on their website with 18 healthy recipes and below is the one I tried last night for dinner and loved. Check it out for yourself!

Sewing day + In Love with These Outfits!

I am sewing some new skirt designs today! It is always exciting to see my new designs come to life. It is difficult though, my designing abilities are better than my abilities with a thread and needle and the sewing machine!

I like to get my fashion inspiration from looking at runway models. See below for the ones I like best – I want these outfits so badly! Maybe my boyfriend will read this and get some ideas for Christmas… I know he did not do his shopping yet!

Which one is your favourite? 🙂

Oh No, Time for a Tangent About Election and Politics!

I am writing here about fashion and living a nice active life, so I don’t want to write about politics, but I have to say that I am sad to see what has happened with America. I grew up in France, where the tradition is to not to bring a politician’s personal life into politics. They leave wives, girlfriends, and families alone because they are not relevant to the issues.

I think that is how it should be. If the personal life of every candidate is in the newspaper, then who will want to run for politics? I think we should be changing the system to encourage good people to step forward to lead, and hopefully many more women!

Anyway, just my thoughts… now back to fashion and health and I promise no more about politics from me! 🙂

Sound Baths? Tell me More!

Have you heard about sound baths? This is really very interesting and very unique! The process of sound bathing involves laying on a yoga mat while gongs, singing bowls, etc are played by a “sound healer”. These are very popular in Los Angeles these days!

I tried my first sound bath a few days ago. It was very relaxing, and it felt like my mind was transported on a journey. It was very easy to meditate and I felt so good afterwards. I slept like a baby that night too!

I was so interested to learn that sound baths have been used for a very long time! Sound, throughout music, or chanting, or singing bowls, has been used in other cultures for healing and wellness. I also heard that sound baths can help alleviate anxiety, sleep disorders, pain management, stress, and depression. Wow!

What do you think, will you try one as well? You can hear a demonstration of sound healing on this website!

Drinking Your Water

I have a tip for drinking 8 glasses of water a day which I wanted to share with you! For a long time I promised myself I would drink this much water but it always becomes so difficult when the day gets busy. Here is what I do… promise not to laugh!

As soon as I wake up a drink two big cups of lukewarm water. About an hour later I need to go to the bathroom. As soon as I leave the bathroom (and here is the trick) I go and drink another two big cups of water. One hour later, guess where I am going? 🙂

The trick is to always drink a lot of water right each time… and like clockwork you will easily drink 8 glasses or maybe even more if you are lucky!

Another good trick is to get a water bottle that you carry with you everywhere. I have a 600 ml version of this copper bottle and take that with me in my purse. It is pure copper, a nice size and beautiful, which makes me want to carry it with me everywhere!

Good luck and drink lots of water!

Staying Fit the French Way

I have seen this interesting article today about how the French stay slim. Well, as a French girl I thought I would tell you what I think about it!!

I am one of those tall, skinny girls, but you would never think so by the way I eat! I can be ravenous and my American friends make fun of me for that.

Some say it is because of my French background which gives me high metabolism, but I do not think it has anything to do with genetics. No, I think it has more to do with the lifestyle that I grew up with and which I brought with me from France.

First of all, European cities like Bordeaux, where I grew up, are very, very different from American cities. In Europe, most people live in the cities where it is very dense. The streets are narrow, and they are often clogged with people. Although many people have cars, they do not use them in the city. So we walk to work, and to the store, and home again. Walking may not seem like much at the time, but it burns calories and keeps our bodies toned, and all of those kilometres add up.

Second of all, the French tend to eat more natural, unprocessed foods. So, our calorie and fat intake is lower to begin with! We also slow down and eat for pleasure, which means that our bellies fill up more slowly and we know better when to stop.

Yes, it is true that we French enjoy lots of good cheese, wine, and baguettes – but those foods are natural and unprocessed, we are savouring them when we eat them and so eating less, and meanwhile we are walking everywhere and burning calories that way. Sounds pretty easy, hum? 🙂
